Chapter 7: The Seventh Day of Acquaintance [Just finished…
[Just finished, you've already gotten off the plane, right? Get some rest, good night. —BY Kwon Ji-yong]
Besides Kwon Ji-yong's message, there was also a message from a friend he'd sent on the plane, asking if she was returning today. He'd come back tomorrow to see her and say they'd go out for dinner together.
[Then I'll wait for your dinner, but it'll be a little late, as I might be jet-lagged. —BY Wu Yunxi]
After replying this message to her friend, Wu Yunxi finally felt a little sleepy. She opened the music app on her phone and set it aside, ready to play some relaxing music to help her sleep, something she'd always do when she couldn't fall asleep.
Soft music played, and Wu Yunxi, lying in bed with the lights off, slowly closed her eyes. She drifted off to sleep without realizing it. When she woke up again, it was already bright outside. Her phone, which hadn't been charged due to playing music the previous night, was off, leaving her with no idea what time it was.
"Xiaodu, Xiaodu, what time is it?" Wu Yunxi sat up and called on her smart speaker to tell her the time and the weather. Then, she slowly got out of bed, slipped on the slippers she'd left by the bed the previous night, rubbed her hair, and headed for the bathroom.
"It's 10:35 AM, the time when your mind is most alert and you can get some proper work done. The temperature today is between 16 and 26 degrees Celsius, and it's sunny. Remember to wear sunscreen when you go
out." The voice of the smart speaker accompanied Wu Yunxi into the bathroom. She didn't rush to wash up, but stood at the sink, resting her hands on the countertop, staring at herself in the mirror. Having slept very late the previous night, she woke up early, but she hadn't gotten much sleep. The person in the mirror had slightly red eyes and a sleepy look, her hair a mess from the rubbing on the road.
After using her hand as a comb to comb her hair a few times, she put on a headband and tied it back into a bun. She rubbed her eyes, picked up the eye drops from the cabinet, and put them in. She waited a moment before opening her eyes. She
felt much better now.
After washing her face, she left the room without rushing to change. No one was home anymore. Wu Yunxi's family is a rare dual-income household. Both parents work and share the housework. While her mother does more cooking, her father is actually the better cook. He previously owned a small restaurant, but it closed during the pandemic and hasn't reopened since. He's now involved in other businesses and is still considered an entrepreneur.
Wu Yunxi's mother works in a hospital, so she was able to introduce doctors there to Wu Yunxi. This was partly because she also works there, and partly because the doctors were well-liked there, though they kept their distance.
During the pandemic, Wu Yunxi's mother couldn't return home due to work, and this boy helped out when she was particularly tired, which made a lasting impression on her.
Wu Yunxi wasn't surprised to find no one home. She went to the kitchen to see if there was anything left for her. Sure enough, she saw breakfast in the pot, though it was a little cold. Fortunately,
it was summer, so eating cold food wasn't a big deal. After eating breakfast and washing the dishes, placing them in the sterilizer, Wu Yunxi returned to her room, changed clothes, and put on makeup. She then grabbed the things she'd bought for her friend and a gift she'd bought herself before heading to the garage. She drove to their agreed-upon location and found her friend already waiting.
"Youzhen!"
Wu Yunxi called out, and the girl looked up, immediately spotting Wu Yunxi standing in the doorway.
"Yunxi, come here!"
Su Youzhen worked as an editor at a magazine. As a student, she'd always been interested in gossip and information. Whenever something happened at school, she'd always be the first to find out what was going on. She'd originally planned to study journalism, but after graduation, she'd become an editor.
The magazine published several titles, and Su Youzhen's department focused on in-person news. So, sometimes, when she saw some gossip online, she'd get a more complete answer from Su Youzhen, if allowed.
But more often, she'd only get vague answers, after all, because of the confidentiality agreement and the sheer volume of information people were giving her.
Fortunately, Wu Yunxi is not really a gossiper. When she hears others talking about something, she will listen carefully. In fact, if she were to find out about these things on her own, it would be impossible for her to do so.
"Why, do you
miss me so much?" Wu Yunxi walked over quickly, sat down opposite Su Youzhen, and handed the things in her hand to him. It was lunchtime, and the place they had agreed to meet was a cafe near Su Youzhen's company. As for dinner, Su Youzhen had to make an appointment for another time because he had a temporary job.
"Of course... I miss the things you bought me~ That's definitely not the case. I miss you so much, Yunxi~"
Su Youzhen said the heartbreaking words with a smile, but when she saw Wu Yunxi become depressed, she changed her words. However, this change made Wu Yunxi feel that it was too corny.
After playing around for a while, Wu Yunxi talked about what happened abroad, and Su Youzhen talked about her recent work. After sharing their joys and sorrows, Wu Yunxi paused and hesitated, not knowing whether to say anything.
"I recently met a very special person. I even had a few dreams about him after we met. You say..."
After hesitating for a while, Wu Yunxi decided to ask Su Youzhen's opinion. At least in this aspect, the other party was more experienced than herself.
"Is it the boy you like?"
Wu Yunxi's expression was a little wrong when she talked about this matter, so Su Youzhen immediately figured out what was going on.
"No, no, no... Rather than saying I like him, it's actually more complicated. Because I personally do have some feelings for him, but his identity is not really that suitable for me. But because I've dreamed about him several times, I still feel like I can't tell the difference between reality and dreams."
This was a bit contradictory, but Wu Yunxi didn't know how to express her thoughts clearly. If she could express it clearly, she probably wouldn't be asking her friends here.
"Then let's wait and see. Yunxi takes relationships very seriously and won't make decisions lightly. If you haven't thought it through, then wait and see."
Su Youzhen offered her advice. She knew her friend's seriousness. She was serious about many things, not to mention relationships, and even friendships were a bit of a stretch. It was simply because they were truly compatible that they had been able to stay together for so many years.
"Yes, yes, yes, you're right. I'll wait and see. At least I can think it through before making a decision."
Wu Yunxi, though a stickler for advice, listened. She thought Su Youzhen's suggestion was sound and quickly accepted it. Because of this suggestion, Wu Yunxi put the matter aside for now; at least she wouldn't commit until she had thought it through.
"That's how it should be. Here, I've added a lot of sugar to your cappuccino."
When it came to coffee, Wu Yunxi wasn't exactly a Korean. She preferred sweetness to bitterness and didn't like drinks that were too cold, so she usually ordered her coffee un-iced with sugar. The taste was strange to Su Youzhen, but Wu Yunxi loved it.
"Thank you for the treat~"
Wu Yunxi no longer hesitated and started to tease again. However, after finishing the coffee, Su Youzhen should go back to the company to continue working.
"Then I'll go back to work. We'll have dinner together in a few days." "
Sure, no problem. Bye."
Wu Yunxi left the cafe, still clutching the small cake she'd just bought, ready to eat in the afternoon. She had no other plans for the day, but as she passed by the barbecue restaurant, she suddenly felt a craving. She called her parents to ask if they could get off work on time that evening. After receiving a positive response, they decided to go out for barbecue as a family.
"Ah! So satisfying!"
Wu Yunxi, having enjoyed a truly delicious dinner, rubbed her slightly overwhelmed stomach as she left the restaurant. A moment later, she lamented that she had to control her diet tomorrow, otherwise she'd gain weight.
Her parents objected, saying she could eat whatever she wanted and not force herself.
"Yeah, sure enough, children loved by their parents can always remain children. Love you!"
Wu Yunxi's exaggerated
acting made her parents a little uncomfortable. They turned their heads and heard a burst of laughter.
"Oppa?"
Following the voice, Wu Yunxi saw a man dressed in black, adorned with jewelry, and wearing a mask, standing there, watching them laugh. It was immediately clear that the man was the one laughing.
She was about to walk away when she noticed the tattoo on his palm, a familiar one even to non-fans. She immediately guessed his identity, but she'd only called out with a glimmer of hope.
"Sorry, Yunxi, I'm here for dinner too. I was just about to go in when I heard your voice. I was about to say hello, but then I overheard what you said. I didn't mean to laugh."
Quan Jiyong's words seemed innocent at first, but upon reflection, they were clearly a way of saying he'd heard everything.
This embarrassed Wu Yunxi, but she tried to feign indifference and exchanged a few simple pleasantries. Quan Jiyong then took the initiative to greet his parents, and then they said goodbye and parted ways.
After getting into the family car, Wu Yunxi covered her face, regretting the embarrassing moment.
"Is this the boy you like?"
