Chapter 9: Changing Face
Li Yuan put down the porridge in his hand and walked to the corridor with Chen Xuan to talk in a low voice.
"Why did her face change?"
Chen Xuan asked, but Li Yuan didn't know the answer either, so he just explained:
"I'm not too sure. I arrived at the scene only an hour before you, and I noticed that Li Qiqi looked a little different. And as time went by, not only didn't I get used to it, but I felt more and more that she was changing every moment."
"I originally thought it was a problem with my eyes, but now... is it really her face that's changing?"
The two of them both felt their hair stand on end at the same time. How could a person's face change over time?
"Do you remember I said Wang Sanbei was wearing a heavy layer of makeup before he died?"
Chen Xuan looked through the window at Li Qiqi lying on the hospital bed, but Li Qiqi was blindfolded and had no idea what her face looked like.
"Officer Chen, are you saying that Wang Sanbei also had changes on his face at the time, so... he used such heavy makeup to cover it up?"
"But...why cover it up?"
Chen Xuan still couldn't quite understand this action, and asked himself. Li Yuan didn't quite understand what Chen Xuan said, so he asked:
"It's not hard to understand, actually. He puts makeup on his face to deceive himself and make it look more like himself."
"That's what I said, but after all, makeup isn't for yourself."
"Not letting others notice that my face has changed... the same principle applies."
Why not let others find out? Are you worried about being looked at strangely?
Chen Xuan looked at Li Qiqi covered in black satin, feeling somewhat uneasy.
Chen Xuan, Li Yuan, and two other police officers stayed behind to provide follow-up protection. Under the cover of black satin, Li Qiqi's emotions stabilized a lot. There was only one time when she really couldn't control herself. Li Qiqi gritted her teeth and asked for help, and the tranquilizer relieved the pain.
After waking up, she talked a lot with Li Yuan, from work to life, and then to her own standards for choosing a partner.
Li Yuan has the natural power to bring hope to others. Li Qiqi smiles more often and is more determined in her philosophy of survival. This is a good trend.
But as time went on, the phenomenon that Chen Xuan could observe became worse. Although Li Qiqi's mentality was getting better, her body was getting worse and worse. There were more and more black spots on her body, some of which had already emerged from her hospital gown and appeared on her arms and neck. She frequently used ice packs to apply to the black spots, but the black spots did not show any sign of stopping multiplying.
But above the neck, there was no visible black spot, but the face could only vaguely show Li Qiqi's original charm. Her facial features became more and more strange, not ugly, but creepy.
She seemed to be changing into a different person.
Fortunately, Li Qiqi couldn't see her own appearance, otherwise she would have gone crazy.
Mutation? Through radiation?
This situation is possible, but it is still relatively small. Mutation cannot be directed. Wang Sanbei and Li Qiqi are gradually changing in the existing direction.
Time came to the morning of the third day.
After waking up from a short nap, Chen Xuan immediately looked at Li Qiqi lying on the hospital bed, worried that she would take the opportunity to do something dangerous.
Fortunately, Li Qiqi was still lying on the bed, as if in a daze.
On the third day, her condition became worse and worse. Her face was pale and the black spots all over her body were connected to each other like plum blossoms, forming a picture without any aesthetic appeal on her body. Her face became extremely weird, from the original creepy ugliness to the weird beauty.
"Li Qiqi, why did you wake up so early?"
Li Qiqi didn't answer. She kept her head down and didn't say a word. She was completely different from yesterday.
The arrival of the third day seemed to have caused some changes in Li Qiqi. She exuded a strange faint smell, which was neither smelly nor fragrant, but it was very unpleasant.
Chen Xuan looked at Li Qiqi's appearance. Even though he had proposed to hold on until the third day, he now doubted whether it could be achieved. The current Li Qiqi could no longer be seen in anyone's memory, and he didn't know what kind of change she had undergone.
Although the situation was somewhat out of control, it was still much better than Wang Sanbei's. At least Li Qiqi did not excessively self-harm and did not die from self-harm.
"Officer Chen...I'm itchy again."
"You knew I was awake?"
"Um?"
Li Qiqi paused, her tone somewhat puzzled. She was clearly blindfolded and could not see anything, but she knew clearly that Chen Xuan had woken up. However, she only explained:
"Guess."
"I want to take a bath."
"OK."
Chen Xuan woke up Li Yuan. With Li Yuan's help, they slowly moved to the bathroom. The sound of the shower was heard, and two figures were intertwined through the frosted glass.
After about five minutes, the sound of water stopped. After changing into new clothes, Li Qiqi was supported and walked out again. Her expression looked much better. On the contrary, Li Yuan beside her looked pale, kept swallowing her saliva, and took deep breaths.
Judging from Li Yuan's reaction, the scene under Li Qiqi's clothes must be more serious, which made Li Yuan physically uncomfortable.
"Thank you, Officer Li... I feel much better."
"real……"
Li Qiqi murmured a soft thank you. Chen Xuan's ears twitched and his brows furrowed as he looked at the completely unfamiliar woman in front of him. The sigh in front of him did not seem to be getting better, but rather a moan of a last gasp.
"It's good that you're okay. Today is the third day. After today, you'll get through it."
Chen Xuan comforted softly, saying something he was not very sure about.
"Okay, I'll definitely stick to it."
Li Qiqi smiled sweetly, and her eyes under the satin seemed to be staring at him.
Li Qiqi lay back on the bed, and soon she fell asleep. With her eyes blindfolded, she looked no different from an ordinary person.
"I told you... she just felt itchy while it was growing. Now that it's done, her mood has stabilized."
The police officer who had proposed the plan earlier also breathed a sigh of relief and patted his chest. In any case, compared to dying directly, being able to survive is already the best outcome.
As long as you are still alive, there will be enough time to study what the disease is and what the cause is.
The ward fell into silence. As the sun went down, his heartbeat became faster and faster. Unease and anxiety lingered on his brow. He felt that he had not made any wrong choices so far, but his professional sensitivity made him a little uneasy.
What exactly happens at night?
The sun was about to fall, and as the last ray of light faded and set, darkness once again covered the entire earth. Moonlight poured into the ward, and at that moment—
A cry caught everyone's attention.
