Chapter 94 Invitation to Dance
Flora stood there in a daze, lost in thought.
After a long while, she raised her head again and said, "Lance, I have never loved any man in my life. It is impossible for me to have love... As long as Milo can survive... I can love anyone."
She didn't want to deceive Lance anymore. That would be too pitiful for him since he had loved her for so many years.
Lance's tears burst out and a bitter smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
"I see. Well then...bye, Flora."
Flora nodded and closed the door.
Lance was the only one left in the empty villa. He stood alone in the living room. A few minutes after Flora left, he broke down and cried.
“Ahhhhh! Why! Why are you doing this—!!!”
Lance knelt on the ground holding his head, crying helplessly, "Oh God, why do you do this to me!"
A crack appeared in the goddess in his heart. Her light did not dim, but became more distant from him, so distant that he would never be able to touch her in his entire life.
He lay on the ground and cried for a long time before he calmed down. Then he went upstairs to pack his luggage. Halfway through, he realized that he didn't need the luggage at all. After he disappeared, the family would definitely ask the old nobles to send people to investigate, and he might be found.
For Flora's sake... he couldn't be found.
Lance thought about what kind of life he would live after hiding. He would use a fake identity and rely on the money he had to get by for a few years without being discovered by anyone.
So he couldn't live in the city and could only rent a house in a chaotic neighborhood. He had to try to reduce going out and not contact anyone.
Those days will surely be very difficult . During the days when he lives in anonymity, Flora will try hard to become a great noble like the old nobles. Someone as outstanding as her will surely be able to do it.
But by then...will she love him? Will she love him for what he has done for her?
Lance sat down on the bed and began to think about this problem uncontrollably.
He had been thinking about Flora for a long time. He tried his best to please her. When he entered Dongyang Island, he gave up his freedom and broke in here, but just a few minutes ago, he was almost killed by Flora.
After years of hard work, he was almost killed. Flora knew his efforts but never thought of being grateful. She had always been using him.
She was not even willing to tell a lie and say that she had loved him during those years.
Lance sat by the bed, and several hours passed.
Finally, he picked up his phone and called his father.
"Hello? Dad. Um, it's me. Sorry to bother you with your rest. I...I want to ask you something."
…
The Ye family’s banquet was still going on. After the meal, the dancing session soon began.
This ballroom dance session should have been a time for the nobles to socialize. Su Ming thought that some nobles would come and talk to him, but it turned out that he was overthinking it. No one came to him, let alone any lady from a noble family who came to dance with him.
Even Ye Feng only chatted with him very perfunctorily for a few words, told him to enjoy the party, and then went on to deal with other nobles.
Su Ming felt that if Sylvie hadn't come, this social event would have been very successful, but after Sylvie came, everything was ruined.
Without Flora's introduction, he would have no way of breaking into the aristocratic circle.
Su Ming stood aside for a while, then walked to the terrace outside to find Xia Xiaoyu. She walked to the terrace, closed the glass door, and the music behind her was blocked out. It was as if she had come to another world.
Xia Xiaoyu sat on the stone pillar fence at the edge of the terrace, looking up at the moon in the sky. When she heard someone coming out, she turned her head and looked back at the sky.
"Why don't you stay inside?" Su Ming asked.
"I don't want to be in there." Xia Xiaoyu said calmly, "Why did you come out? Didn't anyone invite you to dance?"
"Well, as soon as the minister came, the nobles didn't dare to pay attention to me. I don't know where Flora ran off to. I guess there will be no progress this time." Su Ming said casually.
He walked to the fence and looked down. From here he could see the entrance they had passed through, the bridge set over the square fountain, the clumps of bushes, and the bright flowers.
The moonlight shone on the round fountain in the garden, and the water sparkled like diamonds in the silver light. The sound of violin and orchestral instruments could be vaguely heard behind him, and nearby there was the rustling of leaves blown by the wind. Su Ming sensed a hint of coolness in the night breeze and turned to look at Xia Xiaoyu's profile.
"Can you dance with me?" Su Ming asked.
Xia Xiaoyu slowly lowered her head and looked at Su Ming in surprise. Then she smiled slightly, retracted her legs that were dangling outside the fence, and jumped off the stone pillar.
"sure."
Xia Xiaoyu put her hands on Su Ming's shoulders, and Su Ming's fingertips were around her waist, and the two of them got into position.
But Su Ming didn't know how to start, because he couldn't find the rhythm to insert himself. The accompaniment in the dance hall had been playing for a long time, and he and Xia Xiaoyu joined in halfway.
Xia Xiaoyu moved first. She slid forward on her toes and swayed her steps to the rhythm of the music. Su Ming followed her lead and quickly found out how to move his own feet.
It was dimly lit here, and the sounds of violins and other instruments could not be heard clearly through the glass door. They were faint and seemed to come from a very far distance .
A smile appeared on Xia Xiaoyu's face, and Su Ming looked at each other. Their hands sometimes separated and then put together again. She lowered her eyes in front of him, and after a while she raised her head and looked into his eyes, with curiosity in her pupils, as if she was observing something new.
"If I had known, I would have come in a dress." Xia Xiaoyu said softly.
“That’s good too.”
"Why do you suddenly want to dance with me? You just asked me if I could dance with you, not whether I wanted to dance with you, so... this time it's you who invited me."
Xia Xiaoyu gently swayed her waist, moved her neck easily, and looked relaxed and at ease, as if she was born to know how to dance.
"Are you expressing your gratitude to me in this way because I helped Flora? Are you trying to please me?" Xia Xiaoyu asked.
"No, does inviting good friends to dance together have to have any meaning?" Su Ming said.
Xia Xiaoyu looked up at Su Ming, then quickly lowered her head and stared at the upper of Su Ming's leather shoes:
"If Flora's brother has to spend 100 million yuan every year, it will affect a lot of people. You really want to help her. Tell me honestly, do you like her?"
"I don't like her, I just thought I could help her."
"You still want to help even though it's so troublesome? This is not a piece of cake. Even with my help, it will be a very troublesome thing, unless you don't care about the consequences of the evaporation of 100 million yuan." Xia Xiaoyu lowered her head and said softly.
"If Flora's brother can come to Dongyang Island, I might be able to help solve his illness." Su Ming said.
