Volume 1: Die with Unclosed Eyes 28. Eight-needle ground exploration
Lao Niu also thought that Uncle Qi was being polite and said, "Please don't be polite, everyone. This is what my sister-in-law said in person. I didn't just say it casually."
Uncle Qi smiled and said, "It's getting late. I want to rest early. Let's go to see Niu Lin's grave tomorrow morning."
"Okay, I've already arranged a hotel for the three of you. It's a small place and there aren't any star-rated hotels. You three can just stay here for a few days."
We stayed in a motel. The room was very simple, but had a private bathroom and was very clean.
The bumpy journey made me very tired. After taking a shower, I lay down on the bed and fell asleep. The next morning, after getting up and having breakfast, Lao Niu drove us to the location of Niu Lin’s tomb .
"My brother seemed to have a premonition that he would die young. The first thing he did after making money was to build a tomb for himself. He found a well-known local Feng Shui master and found a piece of land with good Feng Shui. After buying it, he started to build a tomb and spent a lot of money. Later, this piece of land was favored by many wealthy people, which shows that the Feng Shui master must have some good judgment."
"Many people can spot the so-called auspicious place at a glance. It simply means there are mountains and water and beautiful scenery. However, whether it is suitable for a tomb or a house requires more than just ordinary observation. There is also the question of whether the fate of the buried deceased conflicts with the local feng shui. This also requires consideration in combination." Uncle Qi said.
"So, not all areas with pleasant scenery are suitable for building graves?" Lao Niu seemed a little surprised.
"Old turtles are a great tonic, but people with strong yang energy can't eat them. There is no place with feng shui that can suit everyone's needs. A place that can be used to build a yang house is definitely not suitable for building a grave, and vice versa. A place that can be used to bury a woman must not be used to bury a man, and vice versa. There is a lot of knowledge involved here." Uncle Qi said.
"I understand. You should take a look first before you tell me. I won't bother you anymore." The car quickly drove out of the small county town and into a hilly area.
"This is Daguang Village, which is also our hometown . There is a Pagoda Mountain hilly area in Daguang Village. The natural scenery there is beautiful. In the early years, the villagers were buried at the foot of the Pagoda Mountain after they died. Niu Lin's grave was also built there." Lao Niu introduced.
The car bumped along a dirt road, surrounded by grass and piles of graves. In this collective cemetery , we could see a rather elaborate dome-shaped building. From a distance, it looked a bit like a church or a miniature Arab palace. Only when the car got up close could we see that it was a large tomb.
The exterior of the tomb is carved entirely out of stone. The main body is a square stone chamber with a round stone ball on top. There is a pointed top on the stone ball. Two white marble roads extend along the left and right sides of the square stone chamber. At the end of the stone road extend two jade walls that resemble bat wings. In front of this building stands a merit stele, on which Niu Lin's life is recorded in gold carvings.
What is strange is that this luxurious tomb has no tombstone. However, judging from the traces of wind and sun on the surface of the building, it has been built for at least ten years. He has not built a tombstone for such a long time. Could he have forgotten?
The more I thought about it, the more curious I became.
Uncle Qi said nothing and looked around. I looked around too. I saw pine trees all around and a few small "white mountains" standing irregularly among the pine trees.
The so-called White Mountain means that the stones on the surface of the mountain are close to grayish white in the sun. Several mountains are irregular cone-shaped, which should be the so-called Pagoda Mountain, but judging by its shape, it looks more like a big bamboo shoot.
Uncle Qi then walked and looked around, and soon he was far away. I asked Luo Tianbao, "What can you tell about the feng shui of this place?"
"I'm okay at looking at sand piles from a pile of dirt, but when it comes to looking at Feng Shui on the ground, I'm no better than a blind man." Luo Tianbao said with a smile.
"I think you have a pretty good eye. Can you stop being so low-key? Tell me what you think. Even if you're wrong, no one will laugh at you."
Lao Niu also said, "Boss Yu is right. Just tell us what you think. Whether it's good or bad, we'll talk about it later."
Luo Tianbao looked eager to try, and after glancing at his seventh uncle as he walked away, he was certain he wouldn't be able to return anytime soon. He pointed to a few mountains and said, "This area has lush vegetation, so there must be a hidden river underground. However, the pagoda mountains are irregularly arranged, unable to form the shape of Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, or Vermillion Bird. Furthermore, the mountains are too steep, like sharp knives at every turn."
"I think that although this place is densely forested, the yang energy is too strong and the yin energy is hard to find. It is more suitable for building a yang house than a yin house. If you just build a small tomb, the extremely strong yang energy may not have an impact on the deceased . However, a large tomb like Niulin will inevitably be disturbed by the yang energy, making the family house unstable. The reason why the three children are imprisoned and disabled is because the yang energy impacted the yin house."
Lao Niu and I were stunned by what he said. Although we had no idea where the theoretical basis for his words came from, we felt that what he said made a lot of sense, it was too reasonable.
"Mr. Luo, if it is true as you said, how can we solve this problem of Yang energy attacking the Yin house?"
"It's very simple. Just knock down the big tomb and build a small one." Luo Tianbao said without hesitation.
"That's right, this is obvious. Why didn't I think of it? Mr. Luo, I learned a trick from you today. I will be able to tell people's feng shui in the future."
I was about to laugh when Uncle Seven asked, "What do you mean you just learned a trick?"
Following the sound, we saw that Uncle Qi, who had clearly walked a long way, had quietly come around behind us without us noticing any of us hearing his footsteps.
"Oh, Master is back. I've always thought that your family are all powerful figures. Mr. Luo is young, but his knowledge is really amazing. I am convinced by what he said." He ignored Luo Tianbao's secret gestures and continued talking.
"What did my nephew say?" Uncle Seven said with a smile.
Luo Tianbao coughed twice and said awkwardly, "Boss Niu, let's just listen to Uncle Seventh."
"No, tell me what you just said again, and let me hear it. Let's just think of it as a discussion between us."
Luo Tianbao's hands were almost broken from shaking, but Lao Niu didn't notice and repeated his previous remarks almost word for word in a tone of great admiration.
Luo Tianbao's face flushed as he stole a glance at his seventh uncle's expression. He could tell that he was very nervous and had no confidence at all.
Uncle Qi thought absentmindedly for a moment, then put the compass-like object in his hand into his backpack and said, "Tianbao, do you really think the feng shui here is too yang?"
"Uncle Qi, you know I'm just a novice, I just chatted with them when I was bored."
"Talk about it." Uncle Seven nodded thoughtfully. Suddenly, he pointed at a few white mountains and said, "You said the reason this place has strong yang energy is because the mountains are steep and towering. This Pagoda Mountain is actually shaped like a sharp blade, right?"
"Yes, I memorized this map from a Feng Shui book, and I'm just copying it today."
"Well, the landscape map does describe terrain with strong yang energy. But if this area has strong yang energy, why are the plants growing here all pines, cypresses, or some broad-leaved plants? Do you see any flowers or plants?"
Although it is winter, there are absolutely no roots or stems of any flowering plants here. In other words, this large area is covered with nothing but grass and trees. Is there an explanation for this?
"How does the landscape map describe the terrain without flowers?" Uncle Seven asked.
"Fresh grass grows towards the sun, green grass grows towards the shade, and pine and cypress are nourished by the longevity soil." His voice became lower and lower.
"So is the Yang energy too strong here?"
"This place is Yin, suitable for building a Yin house."
As the two men were asking and answering questions, the old cow shook his head back and forth and looked at them, his big mouth never closing. It was obvious that he didn't know who to listen to.
Uncle Qi sighed and said, "Tianbao, don't you know the truth about Feng Shui that if you take a turn, your whole family will die?"
"Uncle Qi, I, I was wrong. I will never read Feng Shui for others again." He was so ashamed that he almost cried.
"Feng Shui reading isn't something you can show off. A casual word from us could ruin someone's life. Haven't you seen enough examples of this?"
With a thud, Luo Tianbao actually knelt down. His voice trembled as he said, "Seventh Uncle, if I try to read Feng Shui again, you'll blind me."
"As long as you understand the stakes, it's all right." Then Uncle Seven turned to Old Ox and said, "This is the best place to build a grave. While it's not a Feng Shui location, it won't bring disaster to your family. I used eight probes to measure the local geomantic energy, and I'm guessing Niu Lin didn't close his eyes when he died, right?"
"How did you know?" Lao Niu asked in surprise.
