Volume 2: The Road of Life and Death 10. Corpse Scratching the Coffin

After hearing my speculation, Luo Tianbao nodded slightly and said, "Xiao Zhen, it's quite good that you have gained such insights after studying for so many days. Please continue."

I was a little excited when I got the encouragement from others. I said, "Actually, this isn't that complicated if you think about it carefully. A place that's considered 'water-conquering' has actually been flooded. This means something must have disrupted the original feng shui pattern. This happens all the time. Take Huayuankou for example. That area was originally in the element of earth. In the Five Elements Feng Shui, earth is naturally the keynote. We observe the feng shui layout and infer changes. But Chiang Kai-shek blew up the Yellow River to release floodwaters in order to resist the Japanese army. After Huayuankou was flooded, it became a water-conquering area. I think since it's been flooded, the feng shui pattern must have been changed by external forces, so that the feng shui pattern that was supposed to be 'water-conquering' has become 'water-conquering'."

Lianxing Feng Shui observes Feng Shui in the city and does not pay attention to the terrain, but its use of the five elements is indeed much stronger than other Feng Shui schools.

However, I only have a superficial understanding of Feng Shui. The reason I say this is not because I am sure that the problem lies in the five elements, but because I don’t know what else to say. Since it is nonsense, of course I have to pick the routine that I am most familiar with.

To put it bluntly, when I was looking at Feng Shui at this time, I was thinking more about nonsense rather than having my own opinions on this industry.

Luo Tianbao had no idea what I was thinking. After praising me for a few words, he turned and asked, "What do you think caused the change in the local feng shui pattern?"

This question hits the key point. If you don't have a completely clear understanding of the whole thing, you won't be able to know the details. What Luo Tianbao asked is about details, which I definitely don't know.

But having said that, I couldn't not answer. I couldn't tell him that everything I said before was bullshit. This wasn't just a matter of lack of training, it showed that his character was flawed. So I had to bite the bullet and continue. Even if I was wrong, it would be better than him seeing the flaw. So I pretended to think for a while and said, "I think the reason is definitely man-made. Secondly, it is very likely related to the girl enshrined in the temple. I think as long as we can find the location of the girl's grave , we can solve the feng shui problem."

I said this very cleverly, a skill I had acquired through years of doing business and joking with people. Although my words seemed to make sense, in fact, there was not a single substantive word in them, because the changes in the local Feng Shui pattern must have been caused by human beings. Secondly, since the girl's tomb enshrined in the temple was not damaged after the people of Xiti Village "ate dragon meat", it was most likely related to the girl's tomb. Finally, if the girl's tomb could be found, of course the problem could be solved.

Although my answer was artistic, Luo Tianbao was determined to get to the bottom of it. He then asked, "Where is the girl buried? Can you find her?"

"I..." I was also at a loss whether to laugh or cry. In the past, I relied on Luo Tianbao to get things done, but now I have become the one who solves the problem.

I secretly thought about the Lianxing Feng Shui I had learned, but the effect of Lianxing Feng Shui did not seem to be obvious for the situation we were facing. After all, this was a Feng Shui technique used in the city, and it was naturally "out of tune" in the mountains.

But no matter what, I had to find an excuse to brush off his question. After thinking for a while, I said, "Actually, finding dragon points in Lianxing Feng Shui is not my strong point. I pay more attention to the layout, so..."

"Come on, brother. I know the effects of Lianxing Feng Shui better than you do. No need to waste time talking. Just tell me your conclusion."

"The conclusion is, that's it..." To buy time with my story, I pulled out the Nine Palaces Positioning Compass from my pocket and said, "The stars are connected by nine bridges, and people have nine ways of calculating. I'll take a look at what's going on here."

Flying Star Feng Shui divides the sky into nine pieces, and the place where we live is also divided into nine pieces to correspond to it. As for the method of division, it is positioned using the Nine Palaces compass. Of course, the direction is not fixed, because after calculating the Nine Palaces position, the position of the star palace and the underground palace on that day must be calculated based on the star palace table. The final result is the most accurate direction, and then the local Feng Shui pattern should be calculated based on the direction.

Everyone must pay attention to the word "arrangement", which means that the function of Lianxing Feng Shui is to target changes in the pattern rather than positioning.

But the lies had to be covered up, so I forced myself to figure out that this place was located at the Tianling Palace on that day. From the perspective of Feng Shui, today was not a good day, but a very unlucky day of "opening the door to see evil", so a red rope must be hung at the entrance of the house. If conditions permit, it would be best to hang a Bagua paper to offset the evil spirit.

But how do these variables apply in the wilderness? I pondered for a while and said, "This place is in Tianling Palace today. The evil is right at the door, so the main entrance must be dangerous. So I guess the problem must be the line corresponding to the entrance."

I almost believed this bullshit, while Chu Sen was completely puzzled. Of course, it was normal to be confused, because the conclusion I came to was forced and basically belonged to the category of nonsense.

But Luo Tianbao really believed it, so he walked towards the entrance of the cemetery and we followed him.

What I didn't expect was that when I stood at the entrance and looked inside, I really saw the problem. I saw that there was an area on the land opposite the entrance that was slightly raised, and the soil layer was obviously higher than the surrounding area, but it could only be seen clearly when standing at the entrance.

Due to the long-term flooding in the area, the soil has long become too soft. As long as the underground coffin rots, the surface soil will collapse. The reason why the soil in this area is raised is naturally because there is a coffin underneath. All the coffins were soaked and washed away, but this coffin is still there. Something must have happened.

So we walked to the raised earth mound. Luo Tianbao stepped on the soil with his feet. After making sure that there was no hollow underneath, he squatted on the ground and dug the soil with his hands. We also dug together. This place was already a pile of mud, so it was not difficult to dig with our hands. We soon dug up a large area, revealing a section of the coffin under the soil.

Chu Sen immediately gave me a look of admiration, and Luo Tianbao also patted me on the shoulder as a token of his appreciation. However, when I saw the exposed part of the copper coffin, I knew that this was going to be troublesome, because this was not an ordinary wooden coffin, but a copper coffin.

The surface of the yellow copper coffin was already covered with green copper rust, but the strangest thing was that there was an iron lock tied to the copper coffin.

Although Chu Sen and I have not yet learned how to make coffins, we are very interested in it, so we have read several ancient books about coffins in our spare time, including one about metal coffins.

Copper coffins aren't considered a unique metal material, and indeed, many families do use them to bury their deceased family members. However, there are two prerequisites. First, those who use copper coffins must be wealthy families. The reason is simple: although copper is not a precious metal, a coffin weighs at least several hundred kilograms and can weigh over a ton. The cost of making a coffin made of this material is naturally much higher than that of a wooden coffin. So, why would a family that can afford a copper coffin "bury the deceased naked" without even repairing a tomb? This is obviously contrary to common sense.

Secondly, since the bronze coffin cannot be fastened with nails for burying people, a "hidden buckle" must be made to lock the coffin.

A copper coffin cannot be completely locked, but there is no need to lock a coffin buried underground. Moreover, the copper coffin lid is extremely heavy, and it may not be possible to open it even with the combined efforts of several adults. Therefore, tying the coffin with iron chains is not for anti-theft, but to prevent the person lying inside from coming out.

To put it simply, the corpse in the coffin has metamorphosed, so it has to be sealed in a copper coffin and reinforced with iron chains on the outside. This is a very primitive way of suppressing the corpse, and this coffin with chains tied to the copper coffin is called a "corpse-suppressing coffin."

However, using a copper coffin to suppress corpses is only a temporary solution, not a fundamental solution, because the zombies that have transformed from corpses will not decay for thousands of years, so the main thing to do is to destroy the zombies.

We quickly cleaned up the loose soil above the coffin. The copper coffin was about two meters long and nearly one meter wide. Iron chains were tied diagonally back and forth on the surface of the coffin, and the intersection of the iron chains was locked with a copper lock.

We each pressed ourselves against the four walls of the bronze coffin to listen for any sound from inside, but there was no sound at all.

People who build graves know that there are three most deadly sounds in a cemetery . If a gravedigger hears them, he will most likely be doomed. These three sounds are ghosts crying, ghosts laughing, and corpses scratching at the coffin.
