Volume 3: The Sword That Shines on the Demon Clan Chapter 74 The Play Begins
"Ahem..." The middle-aged man seemed to have some hidden illness, and he couldn't help coughing as he walked. Seeing Wang Chen and the other three, he looked up and was slightly startled, frowning and asking curiously: "Who are you? Where is this?"
The same question made the three of them look at each other with different expressions.
~~~
Under the dim light, four people sat on four sides of the wooden table.
Looks solemn.
"That is to say, the three of us are like having lost our memories, and we don't know why we are here, and this young man was driven here by a vicious ghost?" After a conversation, the middle-aged man looked thoughtful and concluded in a deep voice.
"Hmph! I don't believe in ghosts. Even if there really is a ghost outside, what can it do to me? I want to go out now!" Murong Aotian is not a patient man. After Wang Chen explained the current situation again, he slammed the table impatiently.
At this moment, the girl suddenly looked terrified, screamed, and pointed her finger in front of her.
The three of them felt nervous and looked in that direction together. They saw that there was a window there. The window frame was made of wood lattice and sewn with leather cloth, but due to years of disrepair, there were several holes of different sizes. Through the holes, they seemed to be able to see the dark world outside.
"Someone is outside!" the woman shouted in shock.
"Who are you trying to scare to death?" Murong Aotian glared at the woman. The woman seemed to be a little afraid of Murong Aotian, and said in a much lower voice, "I really saw it, there is an eye looking at us."
"Eyes?" Wang Chen's heart moved.
"What does that eye look like?"
This sudden question made Murong Aotian feel uneasy. The middle-aged man also looked at him with a serious expression.
The woman was still in shock and leaned towards the middle-aged man. Her big eye was wide open, looking like... a person's eyeball bulging out.
"Little brother, why do you ask such a question? Is there something special about the eyes of the evil spirit you saw outside just now?" The middle-aged man pondered for a moment and looked at Wang Chen.
When the two looked at each other, Wang Chen became suspicious. This person actually deduced the key to the matter from one of his questions. If he was not smarter than the monster, then there was something seriously wrong.
After a slight hesitation, Wang Chen said, "The evil spirit I just saw had blood-red eyes, and the other one had rotted away, leaving only bones."
He concealed the title of Vampire King.
The middle-aged man was stunned, as if he had not expected the ghost to be so terrifying. After thinking for a moment, he looked up and said, "Little brother, you are the only one who knows how you got here. Do you have any good suggestions?"
"I heard that ghosts are afraid of light, so if we can wait until dawn, the crisis here will naturally be resolved."
Wang Chen thought for a moment and said.
After hearing what Wang Chen said, the girl's expression relaxed, and Murong Aotian also seemed to have a thoughtful look on his face.
"That makes sense." The middle-aged man nodded and said, "But have you ever thought that the evil spirit forced us into this house but didn't kill us. The deeper meaning behind this is definitely not as simple as asking us to wait until dawn. If we can't break out of this situation, the possibility of death is very high."
"Sure enough, there are people who object." Wang Chen remained calm. This plan was just something he made up in order to draw out deeper clues.
"I heard that some ghosts have no ill intentions, but they just need people to help them solve some problems. Could it be that the ghosts need our help?" The woman thought of the legends and anecdotes she had heard every day, and said uncertainly.
The middle-aged man nodded and said, "That makes sense. Why don't we wait for daybreak while investigating the house to see if there are any clues?"
The girl was already at a loss at this time. After hearing what the middle-aged man said, she nodded hurriedly.
But with just a cold snort, Murong Aotian stood up, walked to the window hole, poked his eyes out, and looked out of the window without hesitation. It was unclear whether this action was reckless or bold.
It was pitch dark outside the window, and a slight chilly air seeped in through the window hole.
Murong Aotian looked at them for a long time, then turned around and sneered, "Do you think you can scare me like this? I'm going to leave right now. Even if there are ghosts, what can they do to me? As the saying goes, people are three parts afraid of ghosts, and ghosts are seven parts afraid of people. Just sit here and wait to die." After that, he strode towards the door. He was about to open the two thin wooden doors.
"Young man." The middle-aged man said calmly without even looking at him. What did you see by the window just now?
Murong Aotian was stunned and stood still. It was pitch black and he could not see anything.
"I think...you might have seen the evil spirit's eye sockets which had turned into a skeleton, so it was pitch black." The middle-aged man said slowly.
"Ah!" the woman cried out in a low voice. The middle-aged man's words were equivalent to saying that Murong Aotian and the evil ghost were eye to eye just now. Such a horrifying description made her back numb and she cried out in surprise again.
Murong Aotian's eyes flickered and his expression changed several times, but he finally gritted his teeth, opened the door with a creak, and strode out.
The cold air outside the house suddenly rushed in. The woman didn't dare to look outside the door and took a few steps back into the room.
Wang Chen stared outside the house, and saw that Murong Aotian had just walked out of the door and his figure instantly disappeared into the thick fog, as fast as a person sinking into water.
But the thick fog has now turned grayish white, like a bottomless pool.
The middle-aged man's expression remained unchanged. He slowly stood up, walked to the door, closed it as if nothing had happened and said, "Let's check carefully to see if there are any clues here."
"Okay." Wang Chen stood up, but his eyes intentionally or unintentionally avoided the woman and the middle-aged man and saw a landscape painting hanging on the wall.
This painting seemed to be quite old, and part of it seemed to be stained by water and turned into a dark brown color. In the painting, there was a cave inside a vast green mountain. In the cave, there were seven people sitting, with different faces and unique appearances. There were weak scholars, elegant Confucian scholars, but also strange people with green faces and fangs like mountain spirits.
He was looking at the painting, while the middle-aged man was standing under the beam in the house, looking up at the roof, as if thinking about something. The woman seemed very timid, just following the two of them closely, looking around randomly, but no longer dared to look at the broken window.
Bang!
At this moment, I heard the door being pushed open suddenly.
Wang Chen was shocked, and the woman screamed and ran behind the middle-aged man.
Looking at the room door that was wide open, Murong Aotian was standing in front of the door, panting, with a look of horror on his face, as if he had seen something terrible in the thick fog.
The middle-aged man smiled and asked, "Little brother, have you changed your mind?"
Murong Aotian had a bad temper. When he heard the middle-aged man's somewhat sarcastic question, he was about to burst into anger, but he didn't know the middle-aged man's background. His face kept changing, and he finally squeaked out a few words from between his teeth: "I changed my mind. I'll wait here with you until dawn." As he spoke, he walked into the house and closed the door.
"Brother, since you just went out, don't slam the door so hard. If someone doesn't know, they would think you were running from far away and pushing the door. You scared me to death." The woman seemed a little embarrassed by her own loss of composure just now, and couldn't help but blame Murong Aotian for being a little reckless.
"What do you mean just went out? I wandered in the woods for at least half an hour and couldn't find the way, and... just came back!" Murong Aotian said angrily, his words were vague, as if he was hiding something.
"Half an hour, I think it would be good if we can have two breaths." The woman looked unconvinced.
