Volume 5: The Burning Golden Flame Chapter 319 Weasley's Arsenal
The dinner that the Weasleys entertained their guests was very sumptuous, or rather, when such a large family was eating together, no matter what they ate, it would be hard to feel shabby.
No one talked about the Order of the Phoenix and the current situation in the wizarding world at the dinner table. Obviously, in such a relaxed atmosphere, no one wanted to talk about business.
Charlie, on the other hand, felt sorry that the Quidditch World Cup could not be held this year. He has always been a good Quidditch player. Before the fall of Hogwarts Castle, he was the seeker of the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Arthur was also particularly interested in Muggle mechanical knowledge, and asked Hermione and John for a lot of knowledge about cars and airplanes.
Jon felt that if Sir Stoker was still alive, Arthur would have a lot of common topics with him. They both came from pure-blood families and had a great interest in Muggle things.
After dinner, Molly took them to her room. Although the Burrow looked simple, it was not short of rooms. It was more than enough to clean up two rooms for John and the others. Gabrielle shared a room with Ginny.
Afterwards, they basically spent the days at the Burrow playing.
George and Fred did tinker with some joke magic props, but when Ginny, Jon and Gabrielle suddenly raided their secret workshop in the basement, looking at what they made, Jon realized that the props they made were not just for jokes.
When the secret was discovered and Ginny threatened her two brothers to tell their mother, Jon picked up one of the black balls as big as a baseball and clearly felt that there was something abnormal hidden in it.
"When this ball explodes, it must be quite powerful, right?"
Fred, who was trying to please his sister and make deals with her with various conditions to ask her not to complain, was startled when he saw Jon pick up the ball, and hurriedly snatched the thing from his hand.
"Don't touch this! This is an immature experiment that George and I made. It's not perfect yet and it's too dangerous."
Of course, Jon could tell what the runes on the surface of the ball were. After he got the stone slab full of magic runes from the tower, he studied these things for a while. Although he was not proficient in them, he could at least understand some things.
"You guys know the dangers. Doing this kind of thing in your own home is a bit too much."
George and Fred chuckled twice. They also realized that Jon understood what this thing was.
"Don't worry. We designed it to be very light at the beginning of the experiment. Probably... like the sound of firecrackers."
Jon looked at their entire basket of "firecrackers" and knew very well that these things, which were only as powerful as firecrackers for the time being, could become very different if a few magic words were added to them.
The twins also realized that Jon was not so easy to fool. They looked at each other, then coaxed Ginny and Gabrielle out of the room, and then pulled Jon to show him "Weasley's Real Secret Workshop".
It was a workbench hidden in a cabinet, just behind the black sphere. As soon as they opened the cabinet door, a table filled with various magic runes and materials appeared in front of Jon.
"This is our biggest secret. Just take a look at it, Jon. Don't tell anyone, especially don't tell Mom and Dad."
George obviously had something to hide, and quietly wanted to drag Jon into this.
The appearance of these things in the small workshop made Jon even more certain that these two daring twins were not researching some simple magic tricks.
Some of the runes were so advanced that even Jon couldn’t recognize them, and most of them were related to black magic!
The basket of black balls he found at the beginning had magic words about the blasting spell engraved on them, but it was obvious that George and his friends were not very good at it, and the things they made could only produce one tenth of the effect of a normal blasting spell, which is what they called "firecrackers".
This is no small matter. To put it in a bigger picture, the two brothers are conducting research on dark magic in private. In peacetime, they would be imprisoned in Azkaban and fed to the Dementors.
Even if they were doing this kind of thing in their own basement storage room, they could accidentally burn down the entire dwelling.
Jon picked up a small piece of iron covered with magic words, and instead of scolding them immediately, he asked in confusion.
“Where did you learn this stuff?”
Fred coughed lightly, a look of pride on his face.
"We are geniuses too! Jon, we learned it all by ourselves!"
"Oh, that's great. I'll tell Mr. and Mrs. Weasley the good news so they can be happy too."
“No, no, no!”
George and Fred quickly grabbed one of Jon's arms each to stop him from doing this act which was tantamount to murder.
"Okay, let's be honest." George raised his eyebrows. "You know, we developed some really cool magic props when we were in school."
"Of course I know." Jon looked at him speechlessly, as he could still show a proud expression. "It's really great. Professor McGonagall has punished you with detention many times because of the mess your dormitory has made."
"Hey, we didn't use them to play pranks on anyone. At most, we used them to scare Ron at home." Fred waved his hand. "Those things are the pride of George and me. They have also greatly improved our hands-on skills!"
"You know what I want to hear is the main point."
"Don't worry, you have to give us some time to brag. Later, when we went out to sea on the Hogwarts, we didn't have the energy to do these things. But during one fishing competition, we invented a 'dispersal fishing rod' and wanted to give it to Justin, deceiving him that it was a good rod that would definitely catch the fish. But he saw through it on the spot."
George took over what Fred was saying.
"Yes, it was all Fred's fault. He didn't stop Justin from putting the hook into the bucket full of fish. The fish would rather jump out of the bucket than stay in the water with the hook. But we didn't have any new inventions until we went to Durmstrang. When we got to Durmstrang, we were very quiet for several days until you disappeared from the castle. Then we ..."
"A relapse?"
"This is called a momentary itch!" Fred shouted, "But we also know that it is not our own territory after all, so we are very restrained in our research, and basically we make things by the frozen lake."
"But people always find ways to improve. No matter how talented George and I are, we can't create something we don't know out of thin air. Later, we set our sights on the Durmstrang library, which was not forbidden for us to enter. We found many magic books there that were different from the Hogwarts library."
George rubbed his hands.
"It was at that time that the old man who was in charge of the library noticed us. After all, we couldn't avoid him if we wanted to borrow books. He discovered our strangeness from the books we borrowed, and then he secretly followed us one day and found what we were doing by the lake."
"At that time, we had just learned the runes related to the blasting spell and made the first Weasley Ball, which was the thing in this basket. Fred and I discussed the plan to test the explosion farther away. At that time, we already knew that the power of this thing was not low, because several failures broke the ice on the lake and we were almost caught by the vice-headmaster of Durmstrang."
"That old man called Alpha caught us in the act and got the Weasley Ball we just made. He is well aware of our research."
Fred patted his forehead helplessly.
"I suspect he has been paying attention to us for a long time, but he didn't make things difficult for us. He just asked us a few questions with the ball, and then offered to give us a certificate to enter and leave the school, so that we can conduct experiments outside the school. This will not only avoid being discovered by the professors of Durmstrang, but also avoid accidents."
"George and I were not misled by his words. We thought he must have ulterior motives and just wanted to get away with it until he found us again and said he could sponsor us in the name of the school's principal."
When he said this, there was obvious excitement in his tone.
Jon frowned slightly.
"In the name of the Headmaster? The Headmaster Bagshot?"
"Yes, that's him." George patted his thigh and said, "He gave us a certificate that allows us to enter and leave the school freely. It was signed by the headmaster's name - Gellert Bagshot. He also gave us some commonly used magic materials and promised that they could provide any normal help as long as we needed it. Even the restricted book area on the upper floor of the library was opened to us. Except for not being able to borrow books, we can read them freely in it."
"What we need to do is to keep a copy of the complete information and finished products for them before we have any research results."
Fred whispered, his eyes rolling.
"At first, we planned to agree to it on the surface, and after getting all the benefits, we would just give them some information about prank props to deal with them. But the librarian seemed to see through our thoughts. He took out a magic contract and asked us to go back and think about it. If we were sure to agree to all the conditions, we would sign my name and George's name on the contract."
Jon stared at these two twins who were truly daring. He never thought that they would actually want to do something like taking advantage of Grindelwald and then turning their backs on him.
"And then you signed the contract?"
George looked matter-of-fact.
"Why wouldn't we sign such a good thing? We are not researching ordinary magic joke props, Jon. You should be able to see the potential of these Weasley balls. As long as we finally perfect how to engrave the magic runes of the blasting spell on them completely and accurately, and without conflicting with the ball itself, each of these Weasley balls will be a complete thunderbolt explosion!"
Fred also raised a small wooden stick on the workbench that looked exactly like a magic wand, as if he was offering a treasure.
"And there's this thing, the 'Anti-Disarmament Wand'! This is also our latest achievement. Of course, this wooden stick can't cast spells like a real wand, and George and I don't have the ability to make wands like that, but we have added special Confusion Runes to the wooden stick. This kind of runes is specially made for the Disarmament Spell. As long as the wizard carrying it is hit by the Disarmament Spell, it is this fake wand that will fly up, and the real weapon will not be affected at all!"
Jon was attracted by his words. He took the fake magic wand from Fred's hand and knew very well that this was no longer a magic joke. If it was really as effective as Fred said, it could definitely be called a strategic material.
"You have completed it completely?"
George shook his head reluctantly and told the truth.
"It's about 90 percent done. Based on what we learned from Durmstrang, we have perfected the Confusion Spell engraved on the fake wand to deal with the Disarming Spell. However, during the actual test, we found that if the Disarming Spell was of normal strength, the fake wand would indeed work. However, if the enemy's magic was too strong, it would disarm the fake wand along with the real wand."
Even so, this thing is already a finished product.
There was no way to resist the powerful disarming spell. It could only be said that the magic runes engraved by George and the others were a little weak. The fundamental reason was that their own magic power had not yet grown to its peak state.
This is a completely solvable problem in the future.
“And this!”
The twins didn't treat Jon as a outsider at all, and Fred took out an iron bar that looked like a TV antenna.
"This is still a semi-finished product, but it already meets the functions we envisioned at the beginning. It is called the 'Broom Hunter'."
Just by hearing the name, Jon could roughly guess what it was used for .
"Specifically for broomsticks?"
"Yes! Our idea is that as long as we unfold this thing, we can make nearby flying brooms ineffective. But it is too difficult to make it. We broke several flying , all of which were provided by Durmstrang. As a result, it can only destroy the oldest sweeping series of magic brooms, and the magic on those brooms is relatively simple. Moreover, the distance it can radiate is too short. It is probably a circular area with a radius of about three meters with it as the center. This distance cannot affect the brooms flying high in the sky at all."
The more he heard their stories, the more serious Jon's expression became.
What the Weasley twins researched cannot be said to be a prank at all. As long as these can be made completely according to their ideas and mass-produced, they can completely create an arsenal for the wizarding world!
