Chapter 60 Live Broadcast

Chapter 60: The livestream

screen was shaking, and a person could be seen walking around with a camera.

The suit's built-in headphones were connected to the audio equipment on the other end of the camera. Bruce first heard some murmurs, followed by the sound of running water and machinery—

and then, Jack's face appeared on the screen.

He placed the camera on the table, and with a cheerful expression, he took a tart from the oven and began pouring a generous amount of blueberry jam onto it.

Bruce thought, "It's like using surveillance cameras as the most popular livestream camera these days."

After that day, Jack seemed to find pleasure in the camera. Instead of destroying it, he tossed it in a corner. When the mood struck him, he would broadcast his daily life in front of the camera, enjoying it all, even chatting to it—for example, late last night, he told the camera a corny joke for an hour...

Bruce listened attentively for the entire hour.

That was the first time he knew the Joker had such a strong desire to express himself.

In the scene, Jack pulled out a large pile of silver cutlery from the cupboard, carefully examining the patterns on them, and finally chose two pairs engraved with roses to bring into the dining room.

When the doorbell rang, Jack was fiddling with a cream cake on the table.

He didn't open the door immediately, but continued to draw a bright red smiley face on the top of the cake with strawberry jam. Then, he walked to the entrance and opened the door.

Standing outside the door was a girl in a gray sweatshirt. She looked only fifteen or sixteen years old, with black hair and black eyes, yellow skin, and Asian descent.

"Cassie—" Jack called affectionately, "You're five minutes early, and I haven't prepared the cake yet."

He sighed with feigned regret, but his tone was light and cheerful, without a trace of embarrassment.

"I don't mind, Jay."

Cassandra looked up at him calmly and stepped through the door.

Jack led her into the living room, muttering to himself,

"I've prepared a picnic for you! Blueberries, egg tarts, pudding, cream cake, and a quiet audience watching the livestream—"

He turned and winked at the camera.

After sitting down, Cassandra's gaze lingered on the table, then fixed on the camera lens. She hesitated, glancing at Jack's expression. "

Is this a one-way surveillance system?"

Jack chuckled, picking up a piece of blueberry tart from the table and handing it to her.

"To be precise, it's Mr. Eyeball's nickname—" He drawled, his tone tinged with a hint of joking. "I'm sure Mr. Eyeball would be happy to join us for lunch."

He paused, his tone growing uncertain again.

"Is he watching... I hope he is... I hope he enjoys the game..."

Cassandra had no idea what Jack meant by "game," but she didn't say anything more. Instead, she silently took a bite of the blueberry tart.

"How does it taste?" Jack asked.

Bruce watched him pass by the right side of the screen, then quickly reappear.

"Delicious," Cassandra replied, then asked, "I didn't know you could make these?"

"I wish I had that kind of skill," Jack laughed. "But no, it's a pre-made treat from the dessert shop downstairs. I just put a little bit of my artistic flair into it—"

Cassandra replied softly, as if she already knew the answer. After a moment, she spoke:

"Why did you disappear a while ago? Where were you?"

Jack crossed his legs and licked the blueberry jam on the edge of the tart.

"What do you mean?"

"The days when you were completely out of touch," Cassandra said seriously. "I can confirm it wasn't you who replied to my messages. No one was home. I went to the theater to ask, and they said you'd been away for a long time. It wasn't until you messaged me the night before last that I confirmed you were back. So why did you disappear?"

Jack tilted his head, as if thinking.

"You have to get used to it, Cassie," he said lightly, "You can think of me as a light bulb. The power will go out from time to time, and the contact will be poor. Maybe it will be normal for me to disappear completely one day..."

"I don't think I can get used to it," Cassie looked over, her tone was serious, "This is about your safety."

Jack laughed, and a little cream stuck to the tip of his nose. He rolled it away with his tongue nonchalantly and said,

"I'm in a safe place, Cassie."

"So where did you go?"

"I was kidnapped by a bat monster--" he said, grinning, as if amused by what he said, and after a while he said, "Well, actually I just stayed in Bruce Wayne's manor."

Cassandra frowned, looking skeptical about this statement. She asked,

"If that's the case, why is your social account being used by someone else?"

Jack leaned back in his chair, shaking the dinner knife in his hand. The light was refracted by the metal, casting a bright white shadow on his face.

He cast his gaze towards the girl and said meaningfully:

"If you really want to know - I can only say that we played a little too much during that time, Cassie."
